There are moments when we feel that we cannot move forward. These are moments that feel like forever, when our descent seems to drag on. This is our world, a world where the ups and downs pull at us and seem without reason. Yet, it is in these moments, when we feel a cosmic abandonment of total loss that a piece of us, which flows from our Godly source pushes us to speak to the Almighty. It is is in these moments when realize that all of our travails have been for one purpose – to reach back up and open our lips to the Creator. That’s when our ascent begins anew.
Rebbe Nachman teaches that the Moshiach will fight all of his wars with prayer. This weapon of speech, between a person and the Creator is the single most powerful tool to eradicate the forces of darkness within.
It is for this reason that Rebbe Nachman exhorts us to use this power of speech in those moments when we feel distanced from our Creator, from our authentic selves that yearn for a true connection.
In a sense, by speaking we initiate our return.
It is for this reason that King David said, “I am prayer.” Prayer is the expression of the root of a person, his kingship. Speaking and praying to the Creator brings about a revelation of both Hashem’s kingship and the one who is praying. This is because one’s speech, when it is filled with holiness actually fulfills its purpose of an uplifted vessel – a tool which is being used to its correct purpose. It is this speech, this weapon of prayer, when wielded correctly that can express one’s inner light – the light of Torah.
All of us can reach this level – where we can become the prayer, the weapon of light hidden within. It is for this reason we were sent down here and it is with this tool of prayer the final kingdom will be built – a Kingdom of Prayer.
