Reb Noson and Me

Tu BiShvat - Reb Noson and Me

Reb Noson gave us so much. This is our chance to give a little something back!

We’ve just celebrated Tu BiShvat, the day that heralds the first buds on the trees, in the midst of the darkness and chill of winter and which coincides with the birthday of Reb Noson. He is the man who proclaims belief in the goodness of every Jew, notwithstanding where they are in the darkness and hopelessness of our exile.

It’s clear that whoever reads these prayers immediately feels it in their heart – a warmth that spreads and gives hope. (Gedale Fenster)

Reb Noson dedicated his entire life to printing and disseminating the teachings of Rebbe Nachman. Through his books, he brings Rebbe Nachman’s life-saving message to the whole world: There is no such thing as despair! There is hope for every Jew! The smallest shoot will eventually bring forth beautiful trees and sweet fruit!

My dream is that I am helping bring down the elevated teachings and yearnings of Breslov and allowing those of who couldn’t access this without the English. (Z.Y.A)

We at BRI are working with all our strength to continue Reb Noson’s legacy and follow in his footsteps, printing and disseminating more and more, so that we can light up the darkness of our exile with Rebbe Nachman’s message of hope and life.

In this world, which seems to get crazier and more uncertain by the day, Reb Noson’s prayers are like an oasis of sanity and peace. (Sharon Gelbach)

I have always felt drawn to his heart and soul, which Reb Noson gives over through his letters. … They guide me across that narrow bridge – connecting the amazing teachings of Rebbe Nachman to this moment in time where I seek to draw closer to the Source. Eternally Grateful. (Rabbi Gil Bashe)

“My fire will burn until Moshiach comes,” said Rebbe Nachman. We see it clearly today. In our confused, and anxious world, Rebbe Nachman’s fire continues to burn strong and bright. We feel it especially in the words of Reb Noson’s Likutey Tefilot. Whoever reads these prayers immediately feels it in their heart — a warmth that spreads and gives hope. This is an extremely important project. I’m very happy to have taken a big part in it and I call on one and all to join as well”. (Gedale Fenster)
“I’ve always wanted to make prayer a steady part of my daily schedule. Over the years I’ve had times when I was more successful and other times when I lost contact for a while. But no matter where I was on my “spiritual matrix,” I found Reb Noson’s prayers to be an anchor. His words never fail to find a place in my heart, always seeming to fit the circumstances of what I’m going through. At the times when I really want to pray but can’t find the presence of mind to thread two words together, I look to Reb Noson’s prayers for inspiration. In this world, which seems to get crazier and more uncertain by the day, Reb Noson’s prayers are there for me like an oasis of sanity and peace. I’m happy to take part in the Reb Noson’s Heart’s Desire project and to have a part in helping other people fulfill their own personal prayer potential.” (Sharon Gelbach)
What pushed him to give, what does he want when he gives, what is his mission for such a special project…” The Tefilos of Reb Noson are so holy and so powerful. I have no idea where they came from and where they are going. I just imagine that in Shamayim both Rebbe Nachman and Reb Noson are waiting and paying attention every time a Yid davens to Hashem with the words of Likutei Tefilos. By contributing to BRI, I am involved in helping a person connect to Hashem when that other person performs a particular mitzvah and they read the English words to a prayer in Likutei Tefilos, or they learn a Torah of Likutei Moharan and daven over it with a translation from this book, that I helped bring in to the world. At that moment when that other person is connected to Hashem — I wish and I hope I am right—I am also being brought in to that particular Tefila.  My dream is to help bring down the elevated teachings and yearnings of Breslov for those of us who couldn’t access this purity and holiness without the English. I pray that Rabeinu and his talmidim and chasidim in Shamayim allow us to join in their requests and imbue our lives and actions with more meaning and devotion. That is why I wanted to sponsor as many Tefilos as I could. Thank you for the opportunity. (Z.Y.A)
I have long wanted to thank BRI for translating Rabbi Noson’s prayers, and making those incredible words accessible to me. My Hebrew is weak, and I find that when I want to pray from my heart, it is always in English. That’s why it was so amazing for me to be able to experience Rabbi Noson’s words through The Fiftieth Gate.  Choosing a prayer to sponsor was a very worthwhile exercise, and one that gave me a chance to really contemplate what moves me the most.  Thank you for all that you do for all of us who are not fluent in Hebrew and may you continue with your amazing work! (S. Korenthal)
Reb Nosson ztl gave us many gifts.  Most cite his bringing Rebbeinu ztl’s Likutei Moharan to print or the writings of Likutei T’fillot and Likutei Halacha as his world-changing contributions in sustaining Rebbe’s ideals and teachings for generations.  Certainly, the kibbutz in Uman continues today as a result of his building the original Kloytz.  Today, we gather at Rosh Hashanah because of his perseverance and wiliness to go through fire and water to gather Breslov. All true! Yet, I have always felt drawn to his heart and soul given over through his letters – written to inspire his son and followers – they guide me across that bridge – that narrow bridge – connecting the amazing teachings of Rebbe Nachman to this moment in time where I seek to draw closer to the Source. Eternally Grateful. (Rabbi Gil Bashe)
For me, Reb Noson is someone who turned Breslov teachings into a practical and accessible tool for daily spiritual growth. (Sarah Rochel Erman)
Rebbe Nachman said, “Were it not for Reb Noson, not a page of my writings would have remained.” Reb Noson made accessible the beautiful Torah of Reb Nachmen. Similarly, we have unbounded gratitude to Reb Chaim Kramer and BRI for making Rav Nachman’s and Reb Noson’s writings accessible to those of us that need English translations. We are honored to be able to support this important project and encourage others to join us. (YG, HMG)
