It’s less than a month and a half before Rosh HaShanah, and Rebbe Nachman’s call is echoing loudly in our ears:
“He told us to make a public announcement that everyone who counted himself one of his followers or who took notice of what he said should come to him for Rosh HaShanah, without exception. He added that anyone who has the privilege of being with him for Rosh HaShanah is entitled to be very, very happy.”
“Go your way, eat the fat and drink the sweet, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10) — this verse refers to Rosh HaShanah.”
“My Rosh HaShanah is greater than everything. No one should be missing! Rosh HaShanah is my whole mission.”
“On Rosh HaShanah,” Rebbe Nachman told his followers, “I can do for you what I can’t do the entire year.”
Indeed, the number of people coming to Uman for Rosh HaShanah has been increasing exponentially from year to year, baruch Hashem. When I first went, some 55 years ago, people had barely ever heard the name of Rebbe Nachman, and today, the whole world has a glimmer of understanding that Rebbe Nachman is truly the secret of Redemption and that only he can extract our generation from the depths to which we’ve sunk.
At one time, accommodations in Uman were almost unbearable, causing many people who would otherwise want to come to refrain from making the trip. Baruch Hashem, our generation has been very fortunate, and today it’s possible to come and enjoy very comfortable accommodations, causing people to want to come back again and again.
We were one of the first who built a decent guest house that was nice enough for the English speaking visitors. Over the years, baruch Hashem, we’ve grown, and our original place is no longer big enough for all our guests. Therefore, we had to reserve another hotel so that we could offer our signature service and heartwarming experience to all who wanted it. I can only say that by us, baruch Hashem, we see the fulfillment of Rebbe Nachman’s statement, that “the world will be amazed at the love that exists among you.” The joy on the faces of our guests and the holy brotherhood that exists among our crowd are beautiful to see. Honestly, this is a life-changing experience — just ask anyone who has ever been with us.
Unfortunately, last year the meniyot were overwhelming, and only a very small group was able to come. This year, however, we are back in full force, with much prayer that the meniyot will not overcome us once again. At the moment, we’re at the height of preparations to help as many people as possible come and fulfill Rebbe Nachman’s words, to come for Rosh HaShanah.
